Altercation involving power drill leads to slew of Felony charges for Merrill man

Chad R. Devore- 38 of Merrill, was charged November 14 with Felony charges of 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, False Imprisonment, Strangulation and Suffocation, Intimidate Victim/Threaten Force, two counts of Bail Jumping and a Misdemeanor charge of Battery.
According to court records, on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 9, Merrill officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance on West Main Street. Upon arrival, officers met with the reporting party who indicated 38-year old Chad DeVore had become upset and was shoved by DeVore.
DeVore then placed his hand around the victim’s neck which inhibited the victim’s breathing. DeVore also reportedly took the victim’s phone to prevent the victim from notifying law enforcement and held a knife to the victim’s neck and chest area. At another point during the altercation, DeVore refused to allow the victim to stand from a chair and held a power drill to the victim’s head and hand, causing a superficial wound. DeVore reportedly fled the residence prior to officer arrival.
However, on Friday, Nov. 11, DeVore was located and taken into custody after requesting officers to standby while he retrieved property.

As part of his initial appearance on November 14, a $1,000 cash bond was set for DeVore. He remains in the custody of the Lincoln County Jail.
