Housing Authority, city partner with MHS on house building project

The Merrill Area Housing Authority (MAHA), Merrill Senior High School and City of Merrill are proud to announce The Bluejay Build Team Project for 2016-2017. This initiative jump starts the traditional home build project the high school Tech Ed construction class did several years ago.

“This win–win program has the Merrill Area Housing Authority serving as the general contractor and the finished three-bedroom home will be added to our multi-family inventory each year,” said MAHA Director Paul Russell. “The City of Merrill will provide vacant residential lots where the homes will be set upon and the city inspector will perform standard progress inspections.”

For the 16-student class this year, the program provides training and education of skilled trades that ended due to the recession, but interest has returned. Project sponsors are listed on a sign design that will be displayed on site at the high school. MAHA will coordinate movement of the home in spring to be placed on the designated building site and local sub-contractors will perform the finishing work.

The sponsor list is growing and not inclusive to whom is listed on the sign. They have graciously all made commitments to donate time, materials and funding for this program.
