Eugene E. Fox

Eugene E. Fox, 88, of Merrill, formerly of Wausau, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Woodland Court Elder Services, Merrill.

Eugene was born May 13, 1928, in Merrill, son of the late Ned and Martha (Wangen) Fox.  He married Lucille E. Hannemann on August 17, 1957.  She preceded him in death on October 18, 1999.  Gene then married Joan Ballschmeider in May of 2002.  She preceded him in death on August 2, 2015.  Gene enlisted in the United States Army on February 21, 1951.  He was honorably discharged on February 16, 1955.  Gene worked many years at the former Wausau Paper – Brokaw.

Gene always enjoyed being on the farm and working with his horses.  He enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren and always looked forward to the daily phone calls from his children.  Gene enjoyed traveling and sightseeing both throughout the United States and overseas.  He was a true gentleman and a conversationalist.

Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia (James Malone) Fox of Portland, Oregon; Jeffrey (Alice) Fox of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and Brian (Louise) Fox of Merrill; seven grandchildren, Clare, Michael, Amanda, Echo, Cali, Rosalie and Zachary; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Amanda and Angela; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha (Walter) Bahlow of Merrill; four brothers, David Fox of Irma, Alfred ‘Jimmy’ (Linda) Fox of Merrill, Royal (Geraldine) Fox of Merrill and Dennis (Earleen) Fox of Merrill; one sister-in-law, Marion Fox; one brother-in-law, Earl Dallman; and many nieces and nephews.  Gene was preceded in death by his wives, Lucille Fox and Joan Ballschmeider-Fox; his parents, Ned and Martha Fox; three sisters, Edna (Bill) Dey, Carol (Carlos) Hass and Andrea Dallman; and one brother, Ned Fox, Jr.

The funeral service for Gene Fox will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 21, 2016 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill.  The Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate.  Burial will take place in Faith Lutheran Cemetery – North, Town of Maine, Marathon County, with graveside military rites conducted by Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church.  The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
