Historic Merrill calendars available now

The Merrill Historical Society is pleased to announce that the 2017 Historic Merrill Commemorative Calendar is now available for purchase. The Merrill Historical Society has been putting together these calendars as a fundraiser for the Society since 1997. Businesses and individuals who contribute to the success of this endeavor by sponsoring months in the 2017 calendar include AGRA Industries, Inc., BMO Harris Bank, Brickner’s Park City, Inc., Chip’s Hamburgers, Church Mutual Insurance Company, Clabough & Associates of Merrill, Dave’s County Market, Johnson Pharmacy & Gifts, Lincoln Community Bank, Merrill Federal Savings & Loan Association, Ministry Health Care, Park City Credit Union, Richard A. Mamer, C.P.A., S.C., and Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

The calendars, which make great gifts, are only $8 each. If mailed, an additional $2 for postage and handling is charged. Calendars are available in Merrill at the Merrill History & Culture Center, Aunt Lu’s Antiques, Blooming Wishes, Book World, The Checkered Churn, Dave’s County Market, Johnson Gifts & Home Decor, LeRoy’s Hair Care Center, Mike’s Barber Shop, and VIP Office Products. Janke Book Store in Wausau also has calendars for sale.

Featured in the 2017 calendar are the end of school year celebration at the A & W Root Beer stand about 1963, a train derailment from the early 1900s, a winter scene at the corner of Highway 64 and Big Eddy Road in 1926, a departure party for Rudy Boes at the Lincoln County Courthouse, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Shoe Company in 1936, the Arnolf Tockley home at 200 N. State Street, George Roemer and Frederick Piske from the Class of 1918, the J.C. Penney explosion, harvest time on August Messerschmidt’s farm in 1933, the 1941 flood, the Burns Hotel in 1901, Town of Corning hunters from 1951, and Christmas at Pine Crest in 1960.
