John “Jack” Wendt

John “Jack” Wendt, age 93, of Merrill, died Sunday, September 18, 2016. He was born April 28, 1923 in Merrill, Wisconsin to the late Albert and Emma (Eggers) Wendt. He married Joyce Jopke at Trinity Parsonage on December 1, 1945. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2010.

Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church, National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Club.

Jack is survived by his three sons: Jerry (Rita), Joel (Sue), Jim (Cathy), all of Merrill; six daughters: Jan (Bill Hoeflein), Austin, TX, Jill (Mike) LaBarbera, Eau Claire, WI, Jeanne (Doug McPherson) Brown, Whitehall, WI, Julie (Don) Gehrmann,  Merrill, Jenny (Brian) McHenry, Rochester, MN, and JoLee Wendt, Merrill; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Kurt (Yvonne) Jopke, Hibbing, MN; two sisters-in-law: Mary Summers, Merrill and Jane (Rich) Cooper, Holly, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Emma Wendt, his beloved wife Joyce, two brothers, Ellis Wendt and Albert Wendt, and one sister, Elmira Prott.

Funeral Services for Jack will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church. Rev. Joel Hoelter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:30-8 PM Friday, September 23 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 AM until the time of service Saturday at the church. Entombment will follow at Merrill Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church.  Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
