Jane D. McCarthy

Jane D. McCarthy, age 91, of Merrill, WI, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.  Jane was born September 14, 1925, to the late Thomas and Martha (Deitrich) Thompson.  She was married to Daniel McCarthy on April 30, 1949; he passed away in 1982.

Jane was born and raised in Merrill and was a graduate of Merrill High School.  After graduation, Jane moved to Milwaukee for a short time before returning to her hometown.  She was a teletype operator with Montgomery Ward for several years.  She retired as a dental assistant for Dr. Piikkila’s office after many years of service.  Following retirement, she moved to Pier Lake, WI, where she lived for over 25 years.  She recently returned to Merrill to be closer to her family.

Jane enjoyed casino trips with her lady friends and loved the holidays, especially decorating her yard around Halloween and Christmas.  She enjoyed playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, sewing and crafts.  Jane loved the time spent at the Lake and was an avid Milwaukee Brewer fan.

Survivors include her 2 Sons, Christopher McCarthy, of Tomahawk, and Erin McCarthy, of Merrill; 2 Daughters, Maureen (John) Heck, of Wausau, and Megan (Ken) Marth, of Merrill; 2 Grandchildren, Nick and Kris; 1 Step Grandson, John; and 3 Step Great-Grandchildren, James, Micah and Noah.  Jane is further survived by long-time Special Friend, Ken Plaman; her Best Friend, Nancy VanDreel; and many Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Thomas and Martha; her Husband, Daniel; 3 Brothers, Claire, Ken, and Twin Brother, Jack; and 5 Sisters, Cam, Virginia, Eilleen, Irene and Rosebud.
