Wausau man faces felony charges from May burglary

Michael L. Koput, 30 of Wausau– was charged August 2 with multiple felony charges including Criminal Damage to Property (over $2,500), Burglary while armed with a Dangerous Weapon, Theft of Movable Property ($5,000-10,000), Felon in Possession of a Firearm and a misdemeanor charge of Bail jumping.
According to court records, on May 13 Koput was involved in an incident in the city of Merrill during which he reportedly made entry into a residence without permission from the homeowner. Koput reportedly used a pick-ax to force entry into the home, which he acquired after first forcing entry into a shed on the property. During the subsequent burglary, Koput reportedly removed several firearms, a video game console, various jewelry items and a computer system without the home owner’s permission. Koput is currently an inmate at the Medium Security Oshkosh Correctional Institution.
