Summer happenings at the History & Culture Center

An exciting summer schedule of new exhibits is underway at the Merrill History & Culture Center.
Saturday, June 18, from 4-7 p.m., you can Dance the Night Away to the music of the Krazy Chester band with local musicians Steven Dallman (who played with the Rocelles), Eddy Kendal and Greg Malm. Homemade barbecues using the famous Merrill A & W recipe and root beer floats will be served. Admission is $3 per person or $5 per couple with children under 12 free. Admission entitles you to one barbecue sandwich and one root beer float (or dish of ice cream) per person. Additional sandwiches and floats may be purchased. This event is an offshoot of the Cruisin’ exhibit which is on display through Aug. 27.

Opening June 28 is “A Century of ‘Modern’ Kitchens,” a look back into the history of our everyday kitchen utensils, appliances and kitchen ware. Items in this exhibit will be displayed in the lower level of the Heritage Center (formerly Bethlehem Lutheran Church) with some additional displays in the upper level. Be sure to put it on your calendar and stop in soon as this exhibit will be taken down in early November.

A tribute to the Lincoln County Fair will take center stage in the lobby starting July 1. This exhibit will show how the nature of the fair has changed as the community around it changed. Horse racing forms, early premium books, ride tickets, medals, ribbons and prize-winning paintings and crafts will be featured, as well as lots of photos and some home movies from the 1940s.

Summer hours at the History & Culture Center for docent or self-guided tours of all the exhibits are Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Other hours are available by appointment. Office hours remain Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
