Susan M. Winchell, 65, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at UW
Hospital in Madison.
Susan was born December 17, 1950 in Merrill, daughter of Cornelia (Amelse) Winchell and the
late Stillman Winchell. In 1970, Susan began her working career at Power Products in southern
Wisconsin. She stayed with this company for nearly 20 years. She then took a job at Sentry
Foods in Port Washington. In 1997, Susan moved back to the Merrill area. While in Merrill, she
worked in the deli at Dave’s County Market, she worked as a buffet cook at Hwy. 51 Truck Stop
and she also worked at McDonald’s.
Susan enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed camping in her younger years. Susan’s
greatest passion was cooking. She enjoyed watching the cooking channel and browsing through
cookbooks. Susan also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and greatly loved
each and every one of them.
Survivors include her mother, Cornelia Winchell of Merrill; two sisters, Sandra Winchell of
Merrill and Anna Winchell (Clarence Hayek, Jr.) of Wausau; six brothers, Emmitt (Donna)
Winchell, Levi Winchell and Edmund Winchell all of Merrill, and Gerald (Nancy) Winchell of
Mayville, WI, Gerard Winchell of Schofield, and Louis (Mary Ann) Winchell of Hatley; 11
nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews. Susan was preceded in death by
her father, Stillman Winchell; and her sisters, Carol Winchell and infant Agnes Winchell.
The funeral liturgy for Susan will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Taylor-
Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Deacon Dan Towle will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will
take place in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The family will receive friends at
10:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
