Merrill Police reports

March 18
10:28 a.m.- Officers responded to a report of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of East Main Street and Eagle Drive. The investigating officers found that the male operator of the one vehicle had struck another vehicle that was waiting to turn. The male operator displayed signs indicative of impairment and was placed through field sobriety tests by the Merrill Police Department certified drug recognition expert. Based off of those tests, the male subject was arrested for operating while under the influence 1st offense, drug related. The male was also cited for operating after revocation 9th offense, no insurance and displaying unauthorized vehicle registration.

11:17 a.m.- An officer took a report of a theft of some outdoor lighting materials. The investigation is ongoing.

3:26 p.m.- Officers were dispatched to the area of Grand Avenue and Prospect Street for a report of a female that was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and contact was made with the female operator. She displayed signs indicative of impairment and also had open intoxicants in the vehicle. She was placed through roadside field sobriety by the Merrill Police Department and was subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence. Officers also located besides the open intoxicants, items of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and cocaine. After the OWI processing and further drug categorization testing, she was booked into the jail for possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers took a report of a domestic disturbance that had occurred earlier in the day involving a male and a female that resided together. Information was obtained from both parties and the matter will be referred to the district attorney for his review.

8 p.m.- Officers took a report of a vehicle that was crossing the center line as it was traveling on Hwy. 51 and it was believed the vehicle exited at Hwy. 64. An officer located the vehicle coming into the city on East Main Street and observed it crossing the center line, speeding and cross over the other lane of travel on a one way street to make a turn. The vehicle was stopped and the driver displayed signs indicative of impairment. He was placed through roadside field sobriety testing and was arrested for operating while under the influence. He was cited for the OWI 1st offense, operating with a prohibited BAC and possession of open intoxicants.

March 19
6:23 p.m.- Officers investigated a Disorderly Conduct in the 300 block of Cottage Street. The victim said that the male suspect had threatened to injure him with a knife that the suspect displayed. The suspect was contacted, and was found to have also been in a physical altercation with his girlfriend. As a result, the male was arrested for Disorderly Conduct with the threat of a dangerous weapon, and Disorderly Conduct, Domestic related.

March 20
Officers located a vehicle in Riverside Park at 2:46 a.m. After speaking with the occupants, it was found that the 20-year-old driver had been drinking. The male was arrested for Violation of Absolute Sobriety. After the male was arrested and processed at the Merrill Police Department, a responsible party drove to the police department to pick the male up. The responsible party, who was also a 20-year-old male, found to have been drinking as well. The responsible party was also arrested for Violation of Absolute Sobriety.

9:20 a.m.- Officers arrested a male for a Probation Violation in the 1800 block of East Main Street.

10 a.m.- An officer investigated a retail theft complaint from a business on East Main Street. The male was identified and will be charged with the theft.

2:10 p.m.- An officer investigated a criminal damage to property complaint in the 600 block of Blaine Street. The investigation is ongoing.
