Merrill #2 on list of most charming Wisconsin river towns

From the Wolf to the Flambeau, from the Wisconsin River to the mighty Mississippi, the state of Wisconsin is dotted with charming river towns, each with their own unique flair. Last week Merrill was named the #2 Most Charming Town along Wisconsin rivers by Discover Wisconsin and reported on Travel Wisconsin.

Mariah Haberman, host of Discover Wisconsin, rated her top favorite river towns in Wisconsin, all of which have been named choice destinations. Merrill has been named a choice destination several times by Discover Wisconsin, the nation’s longest-running travel TV show. Some of the reasons Merrill is a favorite along the river is due to the activities available such as summer kayaking, canoeing, boating, trails and Council Grounds State Park. And in the cooler months there is Ice Drag races and ice fishing. Hop off the Wisconsin River and discover many local trails and parks in the area, or head over to the Merrill Historical Museum or Merrill Public Library, a Carnegie Award winner.

“We were thrilled to be named one of Discover Wisconsin’s favorite communities along Wisconsin waterways,” stated Debbe Kinsey, Merrill Chamber of Commerce CEO. “We have participated in many shows with Discover Wisconsin showing numerous attributes of the Merrill community and have worked very closely with Travel Wisconsin including marketing heavily in many travel guides all to show what a great community Merrill is.”

Some of the other towns listed as favorites included #1 Stoddard, #3 Shawano, #4 Cassville, #5 Ladysmith, #6 Prairie du Chien and #7 Tomahawk. Merrill recently took part in a Discover Wisconsin show that aired on Feb. 6 and will replay again during the course of the coming year.
