Gary L. Schuster

Gary L. Schuster, age 68, of Merrill, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at UW Madison in the Cardiac ICU, due to complications of diabetes and heart failure. He was born on May 14, 1947, in Merrill to the late Clarence and June (Lenz) Schuster. On August 7, 1971, he and Linda Waisanen were united in marriage in Moose Lake, MN.
Gary attended and graduated from Merrill High School. He went on to attend NCTI and received his degree in business and administration. Gary worked as a purchasing agent at Weinbrenner for about 10 years. He and Linda owned and operated the Cleaners of Merrill for 20 years. Gary was a route driver for Coin Star then at JW Perry until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman year round. Gary was a very sociable person who enjoyed visiting with others and they enjoyed talking with him as well. He liked going to the casino and going for drives, especially to check his favorite fishing spots. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Social & Sick Benevolent Society and the Merrill Class of 1965 Reunion Committee. Gary had a great sense of humor and was quick witted. He was a devoted and wise father who encouraged and supported his kids in whatever they did. He loved animals, especially his beloved cat, Max. Gary was a jack of all trades and was especially knowledgeable with anything to do with fishing. He was a lifelong resident of Merrill. Gary had a very strong relationship with his wife and children which often went without saying but was well known to all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife: Linda Schuster; son: Matt Schuster; and daughter: Jessica (Andy Peterson) Schuster, all of Merrill; and his beloved cat: Max.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital Cardiac ICU for the wonderful care and attention they gave Gary during his last days.
Funeral services for Gary will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11 AM at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday February 14, 2016, from 4-8 PM, and again on Monday, February 15, 2016, at 10 AM and continue until the time of the service, also at the funeral home.
