The Hatchet girls hockey team hung tight with Waupaca early in Friday’s road game, but the Comets took advantage of the THS loss of goalie extraordinaire Erin Sparks and pulled out a 9-2 win.
“Anna Albert stole the show again in her third game as our net-minder with a show of grit and making every first save, including two break-away stops,“ THS coach Greg Vallier said. “Anna has stepped up and done everything that has been asked of her and being her first year as a player and stepping into the net as a volunteer, she certainly has gone way above all expectations.
“Even though our numbers are small, we have kept a really positive attitude and all the girls keep working hard everyday on this uphill climb.”
Rylie Flohr’s unassisted goal with 4:01 gone in the game made it 1-1, but by the time she scored again with 6:24 elapsed it the third, the scoreboard read 7-2.
Eleven different Comets figured in the scoring, paced by Markie Ash (1 G, 3 A), Jamie Slattery (3 A) and Chloe Buster (2 G).
Saves – THS- Anna Albert 7-4-4–11. Wau- Cassie Rasmussen 4-2-9–15.
