Merrill Police Reports

January 25
1:02 a.m.- Officers went to a residence after finding information a male was at that residence and had warrants for his arrest through the Department of Corrections and Marathon County. Others at the residence confirmed the man was there. Upon seeing the officer the man attempted to flee out of the back door of the residence. Other officers were at that door in the event the man attempted to flee. The man was arrested for the warrants. He was also found to be in possession of a methamphetamine pipe and a small quantity of marijuana. He was charged for the drug violations in addition to the warrants.
10:37 a.m.- A facility reported finding suspected drugs in the trash. Cleaning personnel located a gem baggie containing a white powder in the bathroom trash. As the suspect cannot be determined the items were destroyed at the PD.
2:23 p.m.- A store reported having a female detained after she was caught shoplifting. The woman had placed several items in her purse and attempted to leave without paying for the items. She was cited for retail theft.
2:45 p.m.- A caller reported someone had burglarized her residence sometime in the past couple days. The items stolen belong to her son who is currently incarcerated. He was spoken to and confirmed he did not give anyone permission to enter the residence and take anything. Investigation is ongoing.
3:39 p.m.- A church called after finding a computer had been stolen on today’s date. Investigation is ongoing.
8:10 p.m.- A laundromat reported they discovered someone broke into one of the machines and stole the change from the machine sometime over the weekend. Investigation is ongoing.
January 26
8:51 a.m.- A female was stopped for a driver’s license violation. She was found to have a warrant for her arrest. She was arrested for the warrant and cited for operating while suspended.
11:14 a.m.- Officers assisted Rhinelander PD after it was found a runaway from Rhinelander was at a residence in Merrill. The runaway was located and turned over to her parents.
3:12 p.m.- An officer investigated a minor crash on Pier St at E 3rd St.
4:04 p.m.- A store called to report an employee theft. Investigation continues.
5:38 p.m.- A caller reported someone had struck his trailer causing minor damage to a lens. The striking vehicle left the scene.
7 p.m.- A caller reported a disturbance at a residence. It was found a mom and daughter had been arguing over a punishment the daughter had received. A male at the residence was found to have warrants for his arrest through Marathon County. He was arrested for the warrants and the officer met a Marathon County deputy at the county line and turned him over to them.
January 27
12:02 a.m.- An officer responded to the 1100 block of East First Street to meet with a male subject that wished to turn themselves in on a probation warrant. The male subject was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
3:25 p.m.- A male subject came to the Merrill Police Department to pay the bond for the active warrants that had been issued for his arrest. The warrants were paid in full and the male subject was released.
9:28 p.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of East First Street for a registration violation. During the course of the traffic stop, both the operator and the passenger were found to be on probation. The female subject consented to a search of her property and a search resulted in officers locating an item of drug paraphernalia. The male operator of the vehicle was arrested for a probation violation and the female passenger was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation. Both were transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
January 28
12:13 a.m.- An officer investigated an incident in the 2600 block of East Main Street. The investigation was regarding a male bradnishing a firearm during an argument. The investigation is ongoing.
2:39 a.m.- Officers investigated a Damage to Property complaint. The victim’s ex-boyfriend allegedly broke the mirror off of the victim’s vehicle. The male was charged with damage to property.
January 29
4:01 p.m.- A store reported having surveillance footage of a female who had taken merchandise from a shelf. The female then returns to shopping and stole some groceries. A suspect was identified and follow-up will continue.
7:53 p.m.- An officer stopped a vehicle as the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer requested the K9 unit. Eros alerted to the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle. Officers located two marijuana pipes in the vehicle, marijuana was found in a passenger’s pocket, a hypodermic needle which field tested positive for methamphetamine was found in a bag as well as several gem bags with methamphetamine residue. The driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping. The passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping.
January 30
2:12 p.m.- An officer investigated a minor crash in a business parking lot. One driver was cited for operating without insurance. A crash report was completed.
January 29
4:38 p.m.- An officer responded to Walmart for a theft complaint. The caller was viewing video footage and located a female leaving the store without paying for merchandise. Investigation is ongoing.
7:53 p.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop. K9 Eros was deployed around the vehicle and made a positive alert. During the search of the vehicle, drugs and paraphernalia were located. The female driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. The male passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
January 31
10:43 p.m.- An officer responded to a noise complaint and the anonymous caller advised it sounded as if people were being thrown around or were wrestling. Contact was made at the residence and the officer could hear someone in the apartment with labored breathing. The male party who did answer the door was under the influence of narcotics and would not give information about the other party in the apartment and slammed the door. Other officers responded and the other party inside the residence was checked on and was also under the influence of narcotics. He was arrested on a probation violation.
