The Merrill District Spelling Bee was held at Prairie River Middle School on Thursday, Jan. 28.
Six schools were represented: St. John Lutheran School, St. Francis Xavier School, Jefferson, Kate Goodrich, Maple Grove Charter School, Washington and PRMS.
Thirty-one contestants competed with 25 written words which narrowed down to the top 10 contestants. Top 10 were: Dominic Laufenberg, Jack Hoock, Eve Akey, Alexandra Johnson, Anna Rydeski, David Golisch, Cody Depies, Jacob Zelinski, Bella Laufenberg and Jakob Mattson.
The top four contestants are: Alternate Eve Akey, 3rd place – Jack Hoock, 2nd place – Bella Laufenberg and 1st place – Dominic Laufenberg. They will represent the Merrill District in the Regional Spelling Bee.
The Regional Spelling Bee will take place Thursday, Feb. 4, at PRMS starting at 12:30 p.m.
