Merrill Police Department reports

January 11
2:47 p.m.- An officer investigated an incident at the middle school involving a 13-year-old student. The student had brought a switch blade knife to school and was showing other students. The student is being referred to juvenile court for possession of a knife on school grounds and for possession of a switch blade knife.
10:35 p.m.- Officers were dispatched to a battery complaint. A juvenile was struck by another juvenile causing injury to the face. The suspect juvenile was taken into custody and was transported to secure detention. The juvenile is being charged with battery and disorderly conduct.
January 12
1:39 a.m.- Officers were dispatched to a verbal dispute that had taken place between two individuals. The officers spoke with both individuals and found discrepancies in their stories. The reports will be referred to the district attorney for review.
2:28 p.m.- An officer responded to a local business that wanted to report a theft of several items. A suspect was identified and the investigation is ongoing.
6:50 p.m.- An officer was handling a different call for service when he observed a vehicle strike another vehicle. Contact was made with the operator of the striking vehicle who displayed signs of intoxication. They were placed through field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence.
