At approximately 5:53 PM on Friday evening, the Lincoln County 911 Center received a report of a 1-vehicle rollover on the US 51 northbound-off ramp to STH 64 outside of Merrill.
Two people were reported to be trapped inside the vehicle.
Deputies of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and personnel from the Merrill Fire Department, Pine River Fire Department and Pine River First Responders were dispatched to the scene.
The first deputy to arrive on-scene found three passengers were able to free themselves from the vehicle, but the driver was still trapped inside. Firefighters worked to extricate the driver while paramedics worked simultaneously to perform life savin meausures inside the vehicle.
When the driver was extricated, life saving measures continued while being transported to Good Samaritan Health Center.
Ultimately, those life saving measures were not successful and the 45-year old Merrill man was pronounced deceased. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The cause and nature of the crash remain under investigation at this time.
