Bernice C. Knospe, age 94, of Merrill, died Friday, December 25, 2015, at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
Bernice was born February 2, 1921, in Merrill, daughter of the late Walter and Elsie Harbath. She married Leon Knospe on July 15, 1944, in Merrill, and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1988. Bernice had worked at Pine Crest Nursing Home for over 20 years as a nurse’s aid. She was an active member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ where she enjoyed volunteering her time, especially with the Mission Guild. Bernice was also active with the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her two sons, Philip (Ida) Knospe of Merrill, and Steven Knospe (with Michelle Jackson) of Springville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Staci (John) Guenther of Merrill, Jeremy (Jennifer) Knospe of Roberts, Wisconsin, and Sarah (Terry) Walker of Boyd, Wisconsin; two step grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) Curtis of Freedom, Wisconsin, and Katie (Nate) Greene of Springville, Iowa; and thirteen great grandchildren, Coty, Philip, Savannah, Emma, Anna, Everett, Lucas, Emily, Eliza, Eloise, Elanah, Kalleigh, and Beckett. Besides her husband and parents, Bernice is preceded in death by six siblings, Jeanette Michalski, Margaret Ricci, Harriet Woller, Dorothy Banaszak, Alice Hinckley, and Jerome ‘Bud’ Harbath.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at St. Stephens United Church of Christ. The Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again after 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
