Koch earns Eagle Scout award

Stephen Koch was awarded his Eagle Scout award on Aug. 11,2015. He is the third of the Koch brothers to earn this award. His Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held Sunday, Oct. 11 at St. John Lutheran Church, Troop 599’s sponsoring organization. He was recognized by his troop leaders as well as State Senator Tom Tiffany.
Stephen, age 15, is the son of Eric and Sherry Koch. Stephen joined Cub Scouts as a Tiger through Pack 599 at St. John Lutheran Church. Eric, the Cub Master, presented Stephen with the Arrow of Light, the highest award of Cub Scouts. Stephen then crossed over to Boy Scouts Troop 599.
Currently Stephen serves as the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 599. He has also participated as Chaplain’s Aide, Librarian, Scribe, Leave No Trace Coordinator, and Patrol Leader. In 2014, Stephen completed National Youth Leadership Training and worked as a Troop Guide in 2015. He became a member of the Order of the Arrow in 2013 and became part of the Brotherhood in 2014.
For Stephen’s Eagle Scout project, he gave leadership to the transplanting of 21 trees at the group campsite in the Council Grounds State Park.
Stephen is a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He is a freshman at Merrill High School. He participates in cross-country, cross country skiing and track.
