Community invited to fill the gazebo with food donations

Someone has coined the term “possibilitarian”- just in time to describe the Fill the Gazebo Food Drive Committee. Fill the Gazebo is a huge community wide food drive, huge enough for donations to fill the gazebo at Normal Park in just three hours.
Many of you took part in last year’s Fill the Gazebo Food Drive. An amazing 4,600 pounds of food was collected, along with over $2,000 in monetary donations. We didn’t quite fill the gazebo, but we have high hopes for 2015.
The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Gazebo at Normal Park. Nonperishable food items and toiletries will be accepted to benefit Merrill’s food pantries and Food for Kids. The rain site for the event is Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 300 Logan St., across from the Middle School.
A group collection may be made or individuals may drop off their donations that day. Monetary donations are welcome; make checks payable to Merrill Food Pantry. From there, the donations are divided equally between Merrill’s three food pantries. Food for Kids especially welcomes monetary donations as items needed for their program are very specific.
Fill the Gazebo Food Drive is an outgrowth of the former CROP Walk and is sponsored by the Merrill Ministerium. All donations stay local. Contact Jess Wakefield at 715-573-4648 or [email protected] with any questions.
