Nearly 20 children turned out for the “Cops and Bobbers” event on Tuesday morning at Tomahawk’s Veterans Memorial Park, thanks to bussing transportation courtesy of Wendorf Bus Service and the Merrill Parks and Recreation Department.
The event is funded by Sussex, WI based “Cops and Kids” foundation which also funds similar events including “Badges and Bullseyes” and “Gutter Busters”. According to the foundation: “The programs are designed to encourage positive interactions between law enforcement and the community, specifically children. These programs allow cops and kids to have fun together while teaching them positive alternatives to commiting crimes.”
In attendance at Tuesday’s event were Merrill Police Chief, Merrill Police Captain Corey Bennett, Tomahawk K9 officer Tom Tollefson and Merrill Police Department Administrative Assistant Jenny Thorson.
Event sponsors include Lincoln county Sportsman Club, Wendorf Bus Service. Hugo’s Pizza. Les and Jim’s Lincoln Lanes, Merrill Park and Recreation Department, Merrill Police Department and the Merrill Police Association.
