Merrill Police Department reports

June 23
4:20 p.m.- An officer stopped a vehicle and a male was cited for numerous traffic violations. The male was also arrested on a probation violation.
June 24
2:34 p.m.- Officers were given information on a location of two burglary suspects from Marathon County. The two suspects were located near the high school. Along with the suspected stolen money from the burglary, a male was also arrested for drug possession.
7:28 p.m.- An officer located a male on East 3rd Street who held an active warrant. The male was arrested and transported to the jail.
June 26
1:13 a.m.- A caller reported a female yelling and swearing at a male outside an apartment complex. Officers had been at the residence earlier for the same type of complaint and the two had been warned to cease yelling and swearing at one another as it was disturbing others. The female was found hiding in a vehicle nearby when officers arrived. She was arrested for disorderly conduct.
10:21 a.m.- A caller reported finding dynamite in his father’s residence when he was cleaning the property. The Marathon County Bomb Squad was requested. It was found the items were old road flares.
4:31 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole. The man became upset throwing his sunglasses in the office and punching a wall. He was arrested for the probation violation.
4:40 p.m.- A business reported a shoplifter in their store. The man was located and arrested for a probation violation and retail theft. The man only had three days remaining on probation.
10 p.m.- A caller reported someone had let the air out of the tire on her vehicle. The tire was not damaged but the caller wished it to be on record. She had a potential suspect in mind.
June 27
5:41 a.m.- A caller reported noise all night long at a neighbor’s residence. As the officer spoke with the complainant, he heard a vehicle leaving the residence in question. The caller stated people had been making laps around the block with this vehicle throughout the early morning hours. The officer observed the vehicle proceed past the location. The vehicle style was not legal to be operated on the roadway and the officer stopped the vehicle. The driver displayed characteristics of intoxication. Field sobriety tests confirmed impairment and he was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
7:13 a.m.- A factory called to report a dog had wandered inside their building and was playing with an employee. The dog was transported to the humane society.
10:17 a.m.- A caller reported a hit & run. The caller had followed the striking vehicle to a residence. Contact was made there and the driver admitted to backing up and striking the vehicle. A crash report was completed and the driver was cited for unsafe backing.
3:38 p.m.- A caller reported someone had broken a window in his truck topper sometime during the afternoon.
10:52 p.m.- A caller reported nearly being struck by a vehicle leaving a business. The caller followed the driver to a gas station. Officer made contact with the woman at the gas station. She displayed characteristics of intoxication. Field sobriety tests were conducted and as a result she was arrested for operating while intoxicated. She was also cited for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
June 28
12:58 p.m.- An officer assisted a caller after her pet rabbit got out of its cage and was hopping about outside. The rabbit was captured and reunited with the caller/owner.
8:11 p.m.- A caller reported the theft of a bicycle rack from outside his residence.
8:23 p.m.- A caller reported she met a male online and invited him to her residence. While she was in the shower the man stole her debit card. In reviewing her online account the man was actively using the debit card at local stores. The officer was able to identify the suspect based on their online activity and the man’s phone number. Further investigation to follow.
9:31 p.m.- A caller reported being jumped and battered by a man. A witness saw the caller being chased by a female and knew the residence she went to. The witness had not observed the physical portion of the incident. The caller stated a male became upset with him for pretending to take photographs of him. The man called him derogatory names and punched him in the chin. The identified female was spoken to and reported she saw the caller “going crazy” in the street so she was attempting to assist him. The man who allegedly struck the caller was not located.
