Merrill Farmers Market up and running at two locations

The Merrill Farmers Market kicked off its season Saturday at Normal Park. The market is now open Saturdays and Wednesdays at Normal Park from 7:30 a.m. until noon (or sold out), and Thursdays in the Good Samaritan Health Center parking lot from 3-6:30 p.m.

This will be the second year of the evening market at Good Samaritan. The market sets up near the old helicopter pad off O’Day Street. The market is preparing to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) vouchers at the Good Samaritan site. The SNAP program started last year at the Normal Park site and will return there also this year. The SNAP program allows eligble low-income individuals and families to purchase items from the farmer’s market, including anything edible and even vegetable plants.

In the early season of the market, vendors are already offering vegetable plants, rhubard, radishes, green onions, peas, lettuce, spinach, homemade bread and cookies, jams, jellies and natural health products.
