William Sorensen, Jr.

William Sorensen, Jr., age 69, of Merrill, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 under the care of his family and Ministry Home Care and Hospice.
William was born on March 10, 1046, in Oak Park, Illinois, son of the late William Sorensen, Sr. and Eleanor (Nelson) Sorensen. He married Joy Pinkowsky on January 30, 1971 in Minocqua. She survives. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in1964 and was stationed stateside in Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Bill had served on the Minocqua Police Department for 9 years as an officer and eventually became a sergeant. He was an over-the-road truck driver, and most recently worked for Riiser Energy.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Sorensen of Merrill; one daughter, Christy Joy Sorensen of Merrill; William Sorensen, III of Merrill; two sisters, Marjorie (Robert) Stevenson of Powell, Ohio, and June (David) Anderson of Wausau; and two brothers, Sidney (Leslie) Sorensen of Wausau and Earl (Annette) Sorensen of Minocqua. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Eleanor; and an infant daughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Dr. Dennis R. Creswell will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Saturday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
