Alfred D. Pike

Alfred D. Pike, age 82, of Merrill, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
Alfred was born August 22, 1932, in Merrill, son of the late Fred and Grace (Bersin) Pike. He married Jean Bessey on July 23, 1955 in Lincoln County. She survives. Alfred graduated from Merrill High School in 1949. He served with the United States Air Force as a Senior Auto Mechanic and an Auto Field Maintenance worker. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He then worked for 25 years as the general service manager at Inland Diesel Inc., in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Alfred was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was very active in his former church, Crown of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hubertus, WI, where he was the president and a member of the choir of the congregation and was also the chairman of the building committee. Upon moving to Merrill, Alfred became a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was involved in the choir. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and watching his favorite sports teams, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Merrill; his daughter, Cindy (Robert) Simon, of Menomonee Falls; his son, James (Jill) Pike, of Antigo; five sisters, Dorothy Richardson, Eleanor (Eugene) Kreitman, Betty (Richard) Geiss, Shirley (Lane) Foote and Beverly (Larry) Turpen; five grandchildren, Sean (Heather) Simon, Norma Jean (Dan Malzahn) Simon-Malzahn, Amanda (Zachary) Eischenberg, Joshua Pike and Charlotte Pike; his brother-in-law, LeRoy (Kate) Bessey; and two sisters-in-law, Diane Doering and Joan Bessey. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Gloria Jean; his parents, Fred and Grace; three sisters, Delores Hedtcke, Frances Steinbach and Norma McPartland; and six brothers-in-law, James McPartland, Harold Steinbach, Francis Richardson , and Fred Hedtcke, DuWayne Bessey and James Doering.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. James Weiland will officiate. Burial will take place at Luther Memorial Cemetery, Town of Schley. Graveside military rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. Friday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
