Carol Jean Koss

Carol Jean Koss, age 83, of Merrill, passed away April 8, 2015, at her home under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
Carol Jean was born October 14, 1931, in Wausau, daughter of the late William and Lillie (Bloedel) Discher.  She married Eugene L. Koss on July 12, 1952 in Wausau.  He preceded her in death on June 1, 1994. Carol Jean and her husband owned and operated Koss Marine in Merrill, where she was the bookkeeper for the business from 1957 until 2007.  
Carol Jean was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill.  She was a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Carol Jean was also a member of the Red Hatters. In the 1950’s, Carol Jean belonged to the Rock Island Ski Club, she also played softball for the Baeseman’s Softball team, and she raced snowmobiles. 
She played cards with a local Bridge Club and also enjoyed playing Solitaire.  Carol Jean was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Health Center where she also helped with the blood drives.  She enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading books, and camping with the kids in Tomahawk.  She also enjoyed traveling throughout the world and seeing everything the world had to offer.  Carol Jean really enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and going to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids sporting events.  
Survivors include one daughter, Karrie Koss (Scott Honey) of Merrill; one son, Kevin (Sarah) Koss of Merrill; five grandchildren, Derek Jahnke (Jourdan Deates), Devin Jahnke (Dana Kelly), Shatara Jahnke (Mike Graham), Sierra Jahnke (George Seliger), and Dylan Koss; three great-grandchildren, Kanin, Maddyn, and Emerson; two great-grandchildren on-the-way, Easton and a baby due in July; one brother, William Discher of Escondido, CA; and her beloved dog, Sadie.  Carol Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Koss; her father, William Discher; her mother and step-father, Lillie and Frank Bradley; and her brothers, Keith, Duane and Gerald Discher.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill.  Father Michael McLain will preside.  Interment will take place in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 P.M.  The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
