Fire destroys St. Francis storage shed

At 6:19 a.m. Saturday, the Merrill Fire Department was dispatched to St. Francis Church, 1708 E. 10th St. for a report of a storage shed that had burned down during the night and was still smoldering.
Engine 62 and Medic 61 responded. Upon fire fighters’ arrival, they found that an approximately 10’x8’ storage shed had been destroyed by fire during the night. All that was left was a dumpster and garbage cans which were stored in the building. Engine 62 pulled a pre-connected hose line and extinguished the smoldering material.
The cause of the fire is undetermined but is believed to be caused by something placed into the garbage dumpster. The building and contents are a total loss with an approximate value of $4,000.
