Property Committee to move forward with resolution

Following Thursday’s talks between City of Merrill officials and the Lincoln County Public Property Committee, Committee chairman Jeff Hetfeld agreed to create a resolution for presentation to the county board, for re-construction of a grandstand structure

During discussion, Mayor Bill Bialecki, Alderman Tim Meehean and City Administrator Dave Johnson explained the specifics of a recent city proposal to offer $250,000 in TIF money toward the construction of a grandstand, if the county commits to the effort. Aside from a few questions about potential restrooms, concessions and possible renovations on other buildings on the grounds, Hetfeld and committee members appeared receptive to the proposal,

“I don’t think we are in a position to discuss those options at this point” Meehean replied in response to Hetfeld’s questions.

‘We can cross that bridge when we get there. Speaking as an alderman, I can tell you right now what most of the other alderpersons are concerned with right now is having a grandstand at the fairgrounds.”

Hetfeld agreed to draw up the resolution at the April meeting of the committee, for presentation to the County Board. Hetfeld also cautioned those present of what lies ahead.

“I can tell you folks right now this is going to be a tough sell with the county board.”

On the flip side, Hetfeld stated he was certain a final decision on a grandstand would be made by May.

“One way or another, this discussion will take place with the county board and a decision will be made.”
