Salvation Army reports record year

The Merrill unit of the Salvation Army is happy to announce that donations reached an all-time high this year in the 20th year of bell ringing in Merrill. Slightly over $25,000 was raised by individual bell ringers, and ringers representing community groups and churches.
Churches that participated were Our Saviour’s Lutheran, St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Christ Methodist, St. Francis, St. John, Hillside Fellowship, First Presbyterian, Journey, and Calvary Lutheran. Organizations who participated included the Octagon Club, The Holly Lange Singers, St. Vinny’s Ringers, Boy Scout Troop 599, Venture Crew Boy Scouts, Cub Scout Pack 503, the Preceptor Alpha Beta Sorority, and the Xi Alpha Nu Sorority. Locations for bell ringing were County Market, Piggly Wiggly, Walmart and First Street Coffee Station.
Groups and individuals who served as bell ringers in 2014 are invited to attend a reception in their honor on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in the Community Room at T.B. Scott Library in Merrill. The event will last from 6:15-7:15 p.m. and will recognize individuals and organizations that were part of the annual campaign. 
Persons interested in learning more about the Salvation Army and its work in Merrill are also cordially invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served. Questions about the event may be directed to kettle chairperson, Sharon Anderson at 715-536-9166.
