Hatchets prevail in Oconto Invite
The Tomahawk grapplers took down an Oconto Invite championship with a slew of top finishes.
The Hatchets worked titles in the final five classes with Quinton Wallenfang (170), Slade Erdman (182), Kalebb Kaminski (195), Dane Borchardt (220) and Jake Borchardt (285), and runner-up placings from Blake Carstensen (126) and Chase Erdman (138). Thirds came from Cullen Wegener (1321), Keegan Jach (145), Nate Flohr (152) and Dakota Tomek (160), Tasha Carrstensen (103 was fourth, and Brady Anderson (120) was fifth.
“We have a lot of experience in our upper weights and it showed,” THS coach Bob Garrou said.
“Oconto beat us last year in a close one and they had the same team back. We knew it would be close, but Kaleb (Kaminski) beat Shiocton’s Henry Fielding, who was fourth in state last year, in his first match. Our kids built on the momentum of that big win throughout the day.
“Actually everybody on the team wrestled up to their best at this point of the season, so I was pretty happy with them.”
Team scores–Tomahawk 360, Oconto 328, Spencer 259, Shiocton 254, Crandon 214, Wabeno 161.
