Janet G. Nelson, age 85, of Merrill, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Janet was born August 12, 1929, in the Town of Schley, Lincoln County, daughter of the late Fred and Adelia (Kleinschmidt) Schmidt. She married Elmer Nelson on October 4, 1980, in Merrill. He survives. Janet had worked at the former Hanson Glove, Merrill. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irma, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid. Janet enjoyed volunteering at Bethesda Thrift Shop, baking and cooking, being outside, and spending time with her dog, Pepper.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Nelson of Merrill; one sister, Gertrude Schulz of Merrill; three sisters-in-law, Nina Schmidt of Wausau, Helen Theiler of Tomahawk, and Della Nelson of Merrill; her nieces and nephew, Sandy (Gary) Hass of Merrill, Sharon (Tom) Thrall of Minocqua, Cynthia Gunderson of Wausau, Philip (Darcy) Theiler of Arbor Vitae, and Nancy (Norbert) Pintons, of Rice Lake; and her grandnephew, Mark Baumann of Kileen, Texas. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Adelia Schmidt; two brothers, Lyndon Schmidt and Donald Schmidt; two brothers-in-law, Paul Schulz and Harry Nelson; and one niece, Judy Baumann.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 24, 2014, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Hans J. Heisinger will officiate. Burial will follow in Chat Cemetery, Town of Birch, Lincoln County. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Monday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home.
