Jay spikers lead All-Valley

The Bluejay volleyball team grabbed five spots on the All-Valley team after a posting a championship season.
Senior libero Morgan Marholz and junior outside hitter Anna Finnell were unanimous selections, and junior setter Emily Page also made the First Team. Junior middle hitter Rylee Folz was Second Team, and sophomore outside hitter Katie Zelinski earned HM.
Marnholtz was 4th in serving (.977), 7th in digs (3.44 pg) and had 9 aces. Finnell finished 4th in kills (118), 9th in attack % (204), while Page was 2nd in assists (8.76 pg), 10th in digs (2.83 pg) and 7th in serving (.967). Folz ended up 5th in att. % (.264) with 99 kills (5th). Zelinski was 9th in att. % (.204), 8th in kills (87), and 4th in blocks (.95 pg).
“Morgan works hard every day,” MHS coach Kris Krug said. “She is a dedicated player and a role model for younger players on and off the court. She is very positive towards her teammates.  Her serve-receive/free ball passing is spot on.
“Anna is a big banger. Every team needs one of those and Anna has filled that role for us. She places the ball well, and mixes up her shots. Last season it was all crosscourt hitting. This season she can hit the ball anywhere and with great intensity.
“Emily was the hub of our offense. She set a 5-1 this season which was a big step up from being a second setter in a 6-2 offense. Emily is competitive and strives to be better not only for herself, but for her team. She is extremely driven.
“Rylee has an important role as our starting middle hitter. She remains positive towards her teammates even when the chips are down, and is a top player in the area as a blocker. Not only is her athleticism the key to her success, but the willingness to play her best.
“Katie has potential that hasn’t been tapped into yet. She is becoming comfortable with her role change from a middle hitter to a right side hitter. She can provide a magnitude of support in the area of blocking from that position. As we have seen improvement with her skills on our team, so has the Wis Valley Conference paid attention to Katie.”
