Smith elected to Church Mutual Board of Directors

Milwaukee area business executive Gregory A. Smith has been elected to Church Mutual Insurance Company’s Board of Directors.
“I’m very pleased that Greg has agreed to serve as a Church Mutual director,” said Allen Leverett, non-executive chairman. “His extensive experience and broad understanding of risk management will add further strength to an already strong and engaged board of directors.”
Smith is a 1985 graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He later earned his master’s degree in business administration from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. A James Kemper Scholar there, Smith had concentrations in accounting, finance and international business.
He is presently an independent financial services consultant with Barnett Management Advisors. Smith is also an adjunct professor and executive in residence at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Lubar School of Business, teaching Management Analysis and Financial Institutions courses.
Smith had a 16-year career in investment banking at Shearson Lehman Hutton, UBS and CS First Boston. His primary focus was in the areas of financial institutions and processors.
In 2006 he was named Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President at Marshall
& Ilsley Corporation. He served in that capacity until that financial institution was purchased by BMO Harris Bank in 2011.
Smith also serves on the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and University School of Milwaukee boards and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. Additionally, Smith is a member of the Milwaukee County Pension Board.
Church Mutual, which now insures more than twice as many religious organizations as its nearest competitor with more than 94,000 accounts, is rated A (Excellent) by industry analyst A.M. Best.
