Alan P. Detert

Alan P. Detert, 55, of Athens, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his home.
Alan was born November 8, 1958, in Mosinee, son of Elvera (Kufahl) Detert and the late Bernhard Detert Jr. He married Shelley Frazee on December 27, 1986. She survives. Alan was a dependable employee at 3M, where he enjoyed his job maintaining machinery. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing trips to his brother Dave’s cabin in Canada, fishing, and deer hunting and spending time in the woods on his property in the Town of Hamburg. He was a sports fan and loved watching his own sons play sports. Alan was a loyal person.
Survivors include his wife, Shelley Detert, of Athens; three sons, James (fiancé, Allie Marshall) Detert, of Madison, Michael Detert, of Stevens Point, and Adam Detert, of Athens; his mother, Elvera Detert, of Merrill; one sister, Cindy (Frank) Stieber, of Mosinee; four brothers, Tom (Terry) Detert, of California, Dave (Terri) Detert, of Rhinelander, Randy (Jane) Detert, of Merrill, and Russell Detert, of Merrill. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Bernhard Detert Jr.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Fri., July 25, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin. The Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Town of Berlin. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
