Tomahawk Post 93 keeps on rolling

Tomahawk’s American Legion Post 93 came up with five more victories last week to improve to 18-1 on the season.
The locals took two from Park Falls last Monday, followed it up with Friday’s 9-2 triumph over Edgar, and closed it out with a pair in Minocqua on Saturday.
Post 93 handled host Lakeland 12-4 behind clutch hitting from Aaron Leonhard and Kevin Bolder.
“Both Aaron and Kevin came up with key hits to drive in a lot of runs,” Post 93 assistant coach Wes Roessler said. “It is a great accomplishment to drive in five runs and both did it in the same game.
“The guys are really playing some great ball. They are coming up with key hits and combining that with solid pitching to build on a solid season. I am really proud of the guys.”

In the other contest, Tomahawk blanked Medford 7-0 behind dominant pitching from Jon Nyberg.
“Jon had a great day on the mound,” Roessler said. “He was in complete control the whole game. He got stronger as the game went on.
“The team wasn’t able to get a lot of hits but they were able to come up with key hits and great base-running to score runs early. It was another great team effort.”
Nyberg struck out the last nine batters that he faced.

Po’ Edgar

Jarvensivu kept Edgar off-balance and Ahrens ran wild in Friday’s win.
“Jared was able to keep the Edgar batters from producing a big inning and came up with some key pitches in tough situations,” Roessler said. “Brad (Jarvensivu) came up with some key hits and drove in some big runs to build momentum for the team. Lorne continued his hot hitting. He is a smart base-runner and always causes havoc for the opposing pitchers.
“We had some younger guys step up and play for us tonight and they all did a great job.”

Bench Park

Bolder gave Post 93 another commanding performance in a 5-0 victory in Game 1 on Monday.
“Kevin was able to keep the Chequamegon hitters off balance,” Roessler said. “He only allowed three hitters to reach base.
“We didn’t have many hits, but the ones we had were extra-base hits at key times to drive in runs. Defensively, we did not make any physical or mental errors. That’s important when we are not getting a lot of hits.”
Tomahawk–    021 20–5.
Park Falls–    000 00–0.
TP: Bolder 5 I, 2 H, 1 W, 10 K, 0 R. TH: 3 H; Jordan Roessler 1-3, 3B, 2 RBI; Steven Renn 1-1, 2B, 2 RBI; Lorne Ahrens 1-2, 2B.

In Game 2, a early lead paid off in a 7-4 win.
“Jordan Shilts was able to place his pitches well and not allow the opposing batters to string hits together,” Roessler said. “Jared had a great game at the plate. He reached base every at-bat and drove in a couple of runs. Fletcher was able to come up with a key hit in the first inning to drive in a run and set the tone for the game.”
