Music, marching, and Shiver Me Timbers…take two!

The Merrill City Band will celebrate America and pay tribute to the armed forces at 7 p.m. tonight at Normal Park. The program will also feature guest vocal soloist Jim Bjorklund.

On Friday, July 4, the band travels to Tomahawk to participate in the annual Pow Wow Days parade, beginning at 1 pm.
BOOM! That’s just one of the many sounds to come out of Normal Park on Wednesday, July 9. The band will present “Shiver Me Timbers – Music and Mayhem,” or so they hope. A lot of rain and a very soggy park caused the event to be postponed on June 25. Director Cap’n Darby Deadbones invites you to listen to the sounds of the band, along with sounds of the pirate cannon, vocal soloist Rusty Pipes Aaaarrrrsted, alto saxophonist Sea Monkey Xena, and narrator Dastardly Bootz.

Activities for kids, including face painting, digging for buried treasure, walking the plank, and a coloring contest, start at 5 p.m. Concessions from the Lions Club, HAVEN, and the Merrill Historical Society are also available. The concert will get underway at 7 p.m. Join the band in dressing up like a pirate and be eligible to win a prize. The little pirate costume and coloring contest winners will be announced during the first half of the concert, followed by the little pirate parade through the audience with special guests, the Thirsty Night Pirates.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and come out to enjoy the fun in Normal Park.  “Don’t worry… it’s not gonna rain,” assures Cap’n Darby.
