Hatchet girls are All-GNC

Three members of the Hatchet softball team found favor with the GNC coaches after this recently completed season.
Senior pitcher Alex DuPlayee picked up a Second Team designation, while senior third-baseman Maggie Gudinas and junior Alicia Kurth both received Honorable Mention.
DuPlayee posted a 3.07 ERA with 2-4 win/loss record, and struck out 37 while only walking 12. She had a .243 batting average with .300 on-base % and .270 slugging %. She committed just two errors in the GNC.
“Alex was the best all-around player on the team, “THS coach John Larson said. “She was a fundamentally sound, versatile, solid pitcher, and one of the most dedicated players I have coached. Her commitment to the game was amazing.
“She is very coachable, a great leader, and a three-time All-Conference selection. She was voted the team’s MVP, and will continue playing at UW-LaCrosse.”
Gudinas, a two-year stalwart at third, hit .286 with a .390 OBP and .343 slugging. She drove in five runs.
“Maggie  was solid defensively, and has a strong arm,” Larson said. “She was one of the team leaders in doubles. Maggie was very disciplined at the plate and led the team in walks. She was very coachable and a good leader.”
Kurth batted .268, had a .348 OBP and a .317 slugging %. She led the team in GNC RBIs with seven.
“Alicia is a solid all-around player,” Larson said. “She was voted the team’s most dedicated player, and is very committed outside of the season to make herself a better athlete. She has a strong arm, is a good bunter, and led the team in five offensive categories (hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, runs scored). She is very coachable, and a good leader as a junior. She led by example.
“All three girls are outstanding student-athletes and people of high character!”
