Tomahawk Post 93 jumps to fast start

The Tomahawk American Legion Post 93 baseball team fired out of the gate with a 5-0 start to its season last week.
The boys rallied for Thursday’s 6-5 win over Antigo, a state-honored team in the high school season, between sweeping double-headers from Rib Lake Monday and Wausau East on Friday.
“This was a nice come from behind win,” Post 93 assistant coach Wes Roessler said. “The guys never gave up and stayed focused the whole game to pull off a win against a very good team.”
Tomahawk–  031 000 11–6.

By the Lake
Rib Lake hung tough in both contests, but Tomahawk had the answer.
“Jordan Shilts pitched a great game,” Roessler said. “He kept the opposing hitters off balance. Our hitters came out strong and grabbed the momentum early and held on.”

Post 93 manufactured the only run of the second game.
“This was an exciting game to be a part of,” Roessler said. “Pitching was key in the game and both teams were up to it.
“Lorne had a perfect suicide squeeze in the bottom of the sixth to score Jordan Roessler. It was great fundamental baseball. I was proud of the team.”

Head off East
Neither team could break the scoring ice except for Post 93 in the fourth of Game 1 with East.
“Fletcher pitched his typical game,” Roessler said. “Very few walks, and keeping the opponent off balance. He never let them get anything started.
“Kaleb came up with a huge clutch hit to drive in two runs.”
Wausau East– 000 000 0–0.
Tomahawk–    000 200 x–2.
TP: Schoone 7 I, 2 H, 1 W, 7 K, 0 R. TH: 1 H; Kaminski 1-2, 2 RBI; Schoone 3 W, 3 SB, 1 R.
Tomahawk wasted little time in Game 2, scoring all it needed in the first two frames.
“Jordan pitched another great game,” Roessler said. “He didn’t get rattled when they got some runners on base. Some players came up with some good defensive plays to keep the East batters off base. Our guys came out hungry to hit the ball and took control of the game early.”
Wausau East– 010 00–0.
