MHS track hits the City

The MHS track teams racked up third-place finishes in last Tuesday’s five-team Wausau City Meet. The boys tallied 81 points while the girls scored 77.
Renee Sladek set a school record of 128’ 7” while placing second in the discus, breaking the old mark by a foot.
“Renee used all the technique and foot work that they had been working on and popped a great distance,” MHS coach Bethany Martinovici said. “I am not going to order this record yet. I still think she has something up her sleeve.”
The boys had a double-winner in Jake Anderson.
“Tuesday’s meet for us was a consistent meet,” MHS boys coach Kurt VandenHeuvel said. “Each athlete went into the meet and finished up where they have been with continuing to improve.
“It was a good meet to go against teams we will see in the conference meet. I am happy with where we stand team-wise and individually. We are healthy and the strength is showing through each meet we go to and compete at. The base built, all we need to do is go out with confidence and execute.”
Both squads used multi-finishes to pack in extra points. The boys went 1-2 in the triple jump with Jake Anderson (43’ 7.75”) and Brandon Bartz (41’ 2.5”), and both went 1st, 3rd in the long jump with Anderson (21’ 3.5”) and Nick Peterson (20’ 3”), and Morgan Marnholtz (34’ 6.5”) and Ashley Berton (33’ 9.25”). Hannah Marrier (:16.89) and Christa Schleif (:17.39) ranked 1st, 5th in the 100 hurdles.
“Hannah Marrier had a personal best record in the 100 hurdles,” Martinovici said. “She had some technique and steps that she has been working on to increase speed and momentum out of the blocks.  She is a strong competitor and puts a lot of pride into what she loves.
“Morgan and Ashley are incredible role models and athletes They continue to encourage each other to better their individual abilities while fighting for the same team.”
