Viola was born in the Town of Russell, Lincoln County, on March 4, 1923. She was the fourth of five children – Alexander, Donald, Gertrude, Viola and Larry – born to the late Gottlieb and Mary (Beil) Tesky, Gleason.
Viola married Harold Plamann at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gleason,  on March 29, 1941. Harold and Viola raised five children on a small farm in the Town of Schley, Lincoln County. Viola enjoyed farming, crafting, vacationing at their cottage on Long Lake, traveling with her husband and children, camping with her friends at Shawano County Park, spending time with her grandchildren, going to rummage sales and playing sheep head. She would often tell stories of her childhood during the Great Depression. Viola told about her father cutting swamp grass – by hand – for cattle feed and her father taking her to school with a horse and sleigh.
