Alice LaBorde

Alice LaBorde, age 86, of Merrill, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at Bell Tower Residence.
She was born June 23, 1927 in Beloit to Hazel (Caldwell) and Nick Feuerstein. Alice and Wayne “Pete” LaBorde were married in Beloit on Aug. 26, 1950. He preceded her in death April 20, 2004.
Alice graduated from Beloit High School followed by St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac.  She then entered The Franciscan School of Anethesia in LaCrosse, graduating in 1949 to begin her 40-year career as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
After they were married, Pete and Alice lived in Fond du Lac from 1960 -1991 before retiring to the northwoods in Presque Isle for 12 years. Alice loved the seasons of Wisconsin, noting on every calendar when the ice went out on the Fond du Lac River by their house as well as Little Hurst Lake in Presque Isle.  She and Pete spent many of their winters in San Benito, TX, and created a much-loved extended family including Father Patrick Seitz.
Alice enjoyed baking and quilting and looked for any excuse to share her passions. Her Catholic faith and love for church and it’s communities ran deep, and she loved being an active member everywhere she lived. She was also involved in local organizations including Campfire Girls, Town & Gown, Lions, Red Hats and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
Alice loved being the Kindergarten Grandmother, “Gramma L,” at Pine River and Washington Elementary schools for 10 years, which enriched both her and hundreds of her “kids” lives.
Things that people may not know about Alice: she was a great softball pitcher at age 12, best marksman at 43, an avid jitter bug dancer, and an award winning hickory nut pie baker.
Survivors include her son, Peter (Janeen) LaBorde, Stratford; her two daughters, Sara (Pam Ore) LaBorde and Anne LaBorde, all of Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Aaron (Shannon) Glade, Arielle (Travis) Weedman, Taylor LaBorde and Sarah LaBorde; three great-grandchildren, John, Harry and Hazel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete; sisters, Florence and Virginia; and brothers, Charles, Paul and Fritz.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 16 at 10 a.m. at the Bell Tower Chapel, 1500 O’Day St., Merrill.
