Social Security planning will be focus of upcoming workshop

Merrill Financial Associates, Kevin Maloney, Dan Schneider and Bill Smith, will be hosting an educational workshop with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans designed to help educate participants on the basics of social security and strategies for maximizing social security benefits. Called “Savvy Social Security Planning: What Baby Boomers Need to Know to Maximize Retirement Income,” the 50-minute workshop will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 4 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. at the T.B. Scott Free Library Community Room, at 106 W. First St., Merrill. The workshop will be presented by Bart Malcomson, Regional Specialist with Thrivent Financial.

During the course of the program, participants will gain a basic understanding of social security and strategies for maximizing benefits, including: Five factors to consider when deciding when to apply for benefits, how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits and how to coordinate Social Security with your other sources of retirement income.
