Hatchet baseball team gets busy

The Hatchet baseball team welcomed the chance to play three games last week, losing 7-3 to Antigo on Tuesday and 11-7 to Wis. Rapids on Saturday wrapped around Friday’s 8-2 victory over Hurley.
“Kaleb (Kaminski) pitched a great game,” THS coach Wes Roessler said. “This was his first varsity pitching start and he was in complete control of the Hurley hitters.
“We played better defensively and had a few clutch hits. Lorne had two nice doubles, and Jordan and Jared had good days at the plate. I don’t like that we are leaving a lot of guys on base, but the positive of that is we are getting a lot of guys on base. Overall it was a good first win for the season in less than ideal conditions.”
Hurley– 000 011 0–2.
Tomahawk– 111 230 x–8.
TP: Kaleb Kaminski 5 I, 3 H, 6 K, 1 R, 0 ER; Chris Schoone 2 I, 1 H, 1 W, 1 K, 1 R, 1 ER. TH: Jordan Roessler 3-5, 2 R; Lorne Ahrens 2-4, 2-2B; Jared Jarvensivu 2-4.

Antigo close-out
The 12th-ranked GNC-favorite Red Robins blew open a close game with a five-run sixth.
“We struggled to get things going offensively,” Roessler said. “We didn’t hit the ball well, but still managed to get some baserunners. It is early in the season, but we need to be more consistent at the plate.
“We just couldn’t get the momentum or capitalize on their miscues. We also made mistakes that we don’t normally do. We can’t do that against a team like Antigo.”
Tomahawk– 000 010 2–3.
Antigo– 100 105 x–7.
TP: Kevin Bolder 5 I, 5 H, 3 W, 4 K, 2 R, 1 ER; Jarvensivu 1 I, 2 H, 1 W, 1 K, 5 R, 2 ER. TH: Ahrens 1-4, 1 RBI; Fletcher Schoone 1-4.

Raider rally
The Raiders used four runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to win the 11-7 game.
“It was the first legitimate amount of time the guys were able to get on the field,” Roessler said. “Fletcher pitched a good game. We had control of the game until we had some defensive lapses in the bottom of the sixth. We had a lot of hits and baserunners, but just weren’t able to come up with a timely hit when we needed one.”
Tomahawk– 301 102 0–7.
Wis. Rapids–100 046 x–11.
TP: F. Schoone 5 I, 10 H, 1 W, 5 R, 5 ER; Jordan Shilts 2/3 I, 6 H, 1 W, 6 R, 5 ER; C. Schoone 1/3 I, 1 K. TH: Aaron Schoone 3-4, Ahrens 2-3, 3 RBI, 2B; Jarvensivu 2-3, 2 R; Roessler (2-4, 2 R; Aaron Leonhard 2-4, 2 RBI.
