Governor approves terminal building project at Merrill airport

Governor Scott Walker announced Monday a $361,489 project to design and construct a terminal building in a new development area at Merrill Municipal Airport.
Dan Brugman, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the new terminal building will assist in creating a hangar development area the airport has been planning for several years.
The project is being funded mainly by the Federal Aviation Administration, which is contributing $326,748. The state of Wisconsin is providing $17,370, with the city of Merrill also paying $17,371.
The project is expected to start in May and be completed by fall 2014.
Merrill Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding. Airport improvement projects are administered through WisDOT’s Bureau of Aeronautics.
