Laborde named Youth Optimist of the Month

Taylor Laborde has been chosen for the month of January, as a result of the nomination by Mr. Eric Simkins. Mr. Simkins writes that, “when he thinks of stand-out students, Taylor comes to mind.” He’s known Taylor for three years as a student in his Honors Biology class and Human Anatomy & Physiology class. “In getting to know Taylor, I learned that she is motivated, intelligent and a tenacious young woman. As a student, Taylor pushes herself; she is an inquisitive student who strives to gain a deeper understanding.  She asks deep questions and dedicates her time to insure that she understands the material,” Mr. Simkins states. “Taylor’s motivation to achieve full understanding and her persistence at working to achieve that understanding are two qualities that make her a model student.”
Taylor currently holds a 4.0 GPA and is ranked first in class. She has been enrolled in such classes at AP Literature and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, four years of foreign language and will graduate with over 25 credits. Taylor is currently enrolled in 10 credits at UWMC for Animal Biology and Calculus and Analytical Geometry I. She has participated in swimming, soccer and Octagon Club for four years, two years as Lifeguard and Red Cross Swim Instructor at MAPS pool, German Exchange and currently assistant coach for MAJSC Swim Club.
Activities that interest Taylor outside of school are working in the Optimist cheese curd stand, summer library volunteer, math tutor, playing piano, French horn and mellophone, downhill skiing, swimming and soccer.
After high school graduation, Taylor plans to attend UW Madison for Bio Chemistry followed by med school. Taylor is the daughter of Janeen and Peter Laborde.
