Allen George Ford, 88, of Merrill, died peacefully in the presence of his family at Aspirus Hospital Jan. 19, 2014.
He was born Aug. 4, 1925 to Harry and Gladys (Butterfield) Ford. He married Margaret Punches, she died in 2001.
He had two sons, Wayne (Cheryl) Ford, Merrill, and Guy Ford, Merrill; four daughters, Sandy (Richard) Ellis, Weston, Wanda (Ron) Stankowski, Wausau, Susan (Jeff) Kurtzweil, Wausau, and Melody (Randy) Stankowski, Wausau; two brothers, Bill (Carol) Ford, Arizona, and Clint (Ann) Ford, Arizona; one sister, Lois DeCanter, Merrill; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife, and his brother Jim Ford.
Allen was many things. He was a mechanic, a soldier, a musician, a gardener, a worker in wood. He was a husband, a friend a father, a grandfather and a great grandfather. He used his hands to make music, fashion art, mend broken things, till the earth, cultivate life and raise children. He added to the world. He created and he did it with quiet dignity, kindness, and grace. His life was a triumph and death is a thing swallowed up in victory. All the same, he will be missed.
