Robert M. Beyer

Robert M. Beyer, age 86, of Merrill, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at his home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.  
Bob was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Merrill, son of the late Frank and Ella (Scanlin) Beyer, Jr. He married Joan Schwartzman on June 23, 1956, in Merrill. She survives. 
Bob had worked at Semco for 34 years. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947, after serving stateside with the Engineers Division. Bob enjoyed telling jokes and stories to his family and friends. Bob liked camping, cooking at the hunting shack, gardening and canning, and traveling. He was a craftsman who enjoyed spending time in his work shop. Bob watched all his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Bob was an avid Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Merrill Bluejay fan. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill.  
Survivors include his wife, Joan Beyer, of Merrill; two daughters, Wendy (Bob) Lass, of Stevens Point, and Julie (Tony) Hartwig, of Merrill; four sons, Rick (Sue) Beyer, Scott (Dona) Beyer, David (Mary Jo) Beyer, and Jeff (Jenifer) Beyer, all of Merrill; sixteen grandchildren, Ben, Mat, Eric, Michael, Krista, Jessica, Aaron, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Brad (Jen), Brooke, Malayna, Jayden, Paula, Mathew and Isaac; eight great-grandchildren, Areianna, Nevada, Avery, Austin, Lexee, Asa, Xandra and Alexan; one sister, Mabel Fromfeld, of Merrill; and one sister-in-law, Janet Beyer, of Merrill. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence ‘Bud’ Beyer, Gordon Beyer and Milton ‘Pat’ (Ivie) Beyer; and one brother-in-law, Dennis Fromfeld.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, Merrill, with graveside military rites conducted by Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
