Hatchet grapplers take 5th at E.C. tourney

The THS wrestling team finished fifth in the Eau Claire Holiday Tournament held Friday and Saturday.
The Hatchets started the tournament with a 52-15 win over Black River Falls Friday to open pool competition. They fell 43-24 to Stanley Boyd in the afternoon contest to drop into the battle for fifth place overall. They won all three duals on Saturday to do just that.
Reedsburg Area took first overall, with Minnetonka, Maple Grove and Stanley Boyd placing second through fourth. In the fifth through eighth bracket, Tomahawk bested Superior (7th) 44-27, Abbotsford/Colby (8th) 54-18 and Medford (6th) 60-15. 
Jake Borchardt went 5-0 on the weekend, taking five in the heavyweight class, four of the bouts by pin and the other by an 8-0 major. 
At 182 pounds, Dane Borchardt went 4-0, with one pin, a 13-3 major and two forfeits. 
The Hatchets had three wrestlers go 4-1 on the weekend. Nate Flohr (145) went 4-1, with three pins and a 9-4 decision while Quinton Wallenfang scored two pins and 4-3 and 7-2 decisions and Trevor Thieme (120) and Chase Erdman (126) each had a pin and three forfeits.
Henry Helland (195) went 3-0 with a pin and 16-5 major to go with a forfeit win. 
In the opener against Black River Falls, the Hatchets lost the first match at 220 before Jake Borchardt got things rolling at heavyweight with a 8-0 major over Gary Garven. After picking up three forfeit wins at 113, 120 and 126, the Hatchets gave up a pin and decision before taking control of the match at 145 and winning out. Nate Flohr (145) won by 9-4 decision over Matt McLinn,  Blake Mueller (152) pinned Samual Rogstad at 1:04, Quinton Wallenfang (160) took a 4-3 decision from Nick Raifsnider, Kaleb Kaminski (170) pinned Harry Lipke at 1:25 and Jacob Pieffle (182) pinned Duston Krapata at 1:13.
Despite winning the last three bouts, two by pin, the Hatchets couldn’t make up for Stanley Boyd taking the first six weights by either fall or tech fall and fell 43-24. Bright spots in the match for Tomahawk were Nate Flohr (145) pinning Anthony Schiedler in 3:23, Quinton Wallenfang (160) getting a 7-2 decision over Chance Ciolkocz, Peter Pintens (182) 11-9 decision over Austin Burzynski, Henry Helland (182) pinning  Jeremy Moffit at 4:37 and Jake Borchardt (220) pinning Quinten Melville in 1:13.
In Saturday’s 44-27 win over Superior, the Hatchets notched wins by Cullen Wegner (113) by pin, Nate Flohr (145) by pin, Kaleb Kaminski (170) by pin, Dane Borchardt (182) by 13-3 major, Henry Helland (195) by 16-6 major and Jake Borchardt (285) by pin. 
In the second dual of the day, the Hatchets handily defeated Abbotsford/Colby 54-18. Notching pin wins for Tomahawk were Nate Flohr (145), Quinton Wallenfang (160), Kaleb Kaminski (170) and Jake Borchardt (285). The Hatchets also picked up three forfeit wins.
Against the Red Raiders, Tomahawk jumped out to an early lead when Trevor Thieme got a pin and then picked up four of their eventual five forfeit wins to tally an easy 60-15 dual win to take fifth overall.  Tomahawk got all their victories in the dual by pin, with Blake Mueller (152), Quinton Wallenfang (160), Henry Helland (182), Dane Borchardt (195), Jake Borchardt (220) and John Rupel (285) taking their weights.
