Reads ‘N Reels for Tweens at the library

T. B. Scott Free Library invites readers in grades four through eight to watch the most recent movie inspired by The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum on Friday, Oct. 18, from 3:15 to 5:45 p.m. in the library community room.

Before the event, readers are encouraged to read The Wizard of Oz, or another book about the land of Oz, or any book about wizards. Several books and audiobooks have been set aside at the Youth Services Desk on the 2nd floor of the library, ready for check out. Readers may also find a book at their school library or possibly in their own collections.

At the Reads ‘N Reels event, readers will enjoy a game and snacks. Each will be given the opportunity to share something special about a favorite book character or event. Following a brief discussion, readers will be treated to popcorn and the movie.

Originally published in 1900 as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the book has been reprinted numerous times. The first movie version, released in 1939, continues to be popular. Disney’s Oz, the Great and Powerful was released in 2013 and explores the origins of the beloved character, the Wizard of Oz.
