Edith G. Haka

Edith G. Haka, age 88, formerly of Plover and Stevens Point, died peacefully at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013.
Edith had been under the care of AseraCare Hospice Services and Bell Tower staff. She had lived at Bell Tower for the past three and a half years.
Edith was born in Oklahoma on June 18, 1925 to Joseph and Nancy (Hamon) Gaddy. She grew up in Oklahoma during the dustbowl years of the depression with her two sisters and five brothers.
After high school, she lived in Tulsa where she worked as a secretary, and met John J. Haka, who was attending Tulsa University following his service in the army during WWII. Edith and John were married in 1946. They moved to Milwaukee where John graduated from Marquette, and then to John’s hometown of Stevens Point in 1951, where Edith worked for Hardware Mutual Insurance Company before their four children were born. Edith and John later moved to Plover, and were married for 62 years when John passed away in 2008.
Edith was a loving wife and mother. She was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle expert. She enjoyed travelling, and also volunteered for many years at her church. She cherished many long term friendships.
Edith is survived by her four children, Nancy Baacke of Irma, Katherine Haka (Bob McKimm) of South Euclid, OH, John (Stephanie) Haka of Junction City, and Chris Haka of Stevens Point, and also eight grandchildren: Daniel (Chelsea) Baacke, Travis Baacke, Justin (Jessica) Hoerter, Jarod Hoerter (Jenny Koenig), Bethany Hoerter, Darin Hughes, Ashley Hughes, and Derek Hughes. She is further survived by her brother Robert (Ila) Gaddy of Skiatook, OK.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point, and burial was in Guardian Angel Cemetery, Stevens Point, with Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home handling the arrangements.
The family is very thankful to the staff of Bell Tower Residence, and Dr. Donald Evans for their care of Edith during her years in Merrill.
